On February 7, 2025, the Colombian peso broke below the COP$4,100 threshold against the U.S.
dollar for the first time in six months. This significant drop saw the dollar trading at COP$4,092 by mid-morning, a level last seen in August 2024.
The dollar opened the day at COP$4,130, slightly below the Representative Market Rate (TRM), and briefly peaked at COP$4,140 before declining.Financial analyst Andrs Moreno predicts ongoing volatility for the dollar in February 2025.
He attributes this to global adjustments to U.S.
President Donald Trumps statements and reduced regional uncertainty over tariff issues.Moreno notes that the Colombian peso experienced significant volatility in 2024, fluctuating between COP$3,700 and COP$4,500.
He anticipates a similar range for 2025, suggesting the dollar could trade between COP$4,000 and COP$4,800.The U.S.
dollars strength globally has been influenced by expectations around the Federal Reserves interest rate decisions.

There has been notable activity in ETFs tracking Colombian assets, with inflows suggesting investor optimism about the Colombian market despite the dollars decline. This optimism is driven by Colombias attractive investment conditions, including high interest rates and reduced political nervousness ahead of the parliamentary elections in 13 months.Moreno advises investors to capitalize on the dollars volatility, recommending strategic buying during dips and selling during surges.
The pesos performance highlights Colombias resilience amidst global economic shifts. As markets adjust to geopolitical developments and monetary policy changes, investors must stay informed.
